Christmas is almost here – it’s time to buy panettone!

Top 5 places if you haven't chosen yet. It’s a great gift idea too.

Dear friends, after eight years of living in Italy, the main attribute of coming holiday for me is not the Christmas tree. It’s panettone – famous Italian pastry dedicated to this festive season. I would love to share with you my personal list of iconic places in Milan, where you can buy this dessert for yourself or as a gift.

Pasticceria Marchesi. Probably Milan’s holy place of panettone. Soon the streets will be filled with locals carrying recognizable square bags in their hands, and the pasticcerias themselves will have an impressive queue. An important detail for fashion lovers – Marchesi is owned by Prada.

Da Vittorio Selection. The gastronomic boutique of the famous restaurant brand Da Vittorio in the very center. Here you can buy gourmet gifts for all tastes, including panettone, which is available in three versions: classic, chocolate and with the addition of apricots and Collio Picolit wine. I still prefer the classic, although I know that the wine-soaked version is so much popular.

Galli. Pasticceria Giovanni Galli, an important part of Milan’s gastronomic history, was founded in 1911 and still tries to preserve the traditional ways of producing products, so the native Milanese have a well-deserved respect for this place. Both of the brand’s pastry shops (on Porta Romana and via Victor Hugo) have the elegant atmosphere of the turn of the last century, with all recipes handed down from generation to generation, including the recipe for the classic panettone.

Dolce and Gabbana. The distinctive feature and perhaps the main reason to buy panettone from the fashion brand DG is a very beautiful tin box decorated with traditional Sicilian ornaments. The design changes every year, so you can make a whole collection. It’s available at La Rinascente, the boutique on Corso Venezia 7 and at Martini Bar.

La Rinascente. Christmas market on the sixth floor. One of the most easy ways to buy panettone if you’re still undecided, there is a large selection of many brands to choose from. You can combine it with shopping in the department store, to look for gifts for your family and find the panettone that will grace your holiday table.

Isn’t panettone a great gift idea?
